MORNING IMMUNITY SHOTS

I start my days with this every day…. And the handy thing is there is no need to spend money on expensive store bought options, as they are so quick and simple to make yourself.

A batch of these lemon, ginger and  turmeric shots will last a few weeks or more.  I store them in the freezer, then simply pop one into my cup each morning and add boiling water.

Starting my day with this one easy step really sets the tone, it makes me feel like I have done something good for myself and my health before I do anything else.  Each of the ingredients are packed with so many benefits, and have been used in Ayurvedic medicine practices for centuries.   Ayurveda is a Traditional Eastern healing modality I have studied and use within my practice when working with clients.  (I have explained more about this in another blog post if you are interested).

Ginger:  Fresh ginger is required for this recipe.  Fresh ginger gives an instant warming feeling, and really revs up the metabolism. It is one of Ayurveda’s most loved herbs for its ability to improve digestion strength (agni) and for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric: Turmeric is best known as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Its powerful properties come from it’s active compound called curcumin. Often used in Ayurvedic medicine to support many health concerns such as arthritis, skin inflammation and digestive disorders.

Lemon: Rich in vitamin C, lemon is well known as a powerful antioxidant and a staple in any Ayurvedic diet! Lemons are ‘heating’ in Ayurveda while limes are considered ‘cooling.’ If you are a Pitta type, or live in a hot climate, try swapping out lemon for lime in this recipe!

Black Pepper: Black pepper is essential as it increases the absorption of turmeric by up to 2000%!  it is often used in Ayurveda to stimulate sluggish digestion and relieve uncomfortable gas and bloating.

YOU WILL NEED

  • Ginger ( 3 inch chunk)

  • Turmeric (fresh or powdered)

  • Unwaxed Lemons * 6

  • Black pepper

METHOD:

  • Wash the Ginger

  • Cut the lemons in half, and cut off most of the peel (accuracy isn’t essential!)

  • Put the ginger, lemons, and turmeric (root or powder), along with a goog pinch of cracked black pepper into the blender. Blitz!

  • Then pour them into ice molds (I use silicone molds, and have a link on my shop tab to those)

  • Freeze

  • Then simple pop one out into a cup each morning, and add boiling water

  • Enjoy!
